The Italian national team joined up for training on Monday ahead of two crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Norway in a tight Group H.

Antonio Conte's team sit top of their group but third placed Croatia are only three points behind, and they need positive results in their two final games to guarantee progression to next summer's showpiece tournament in France.

Andrea Pirlo, Sebastian Giovinco and Riccardo Montolivo are among a 26-man squad called up by Conte, which also includes Premier League stars Graziano Pelle and Matteo Darmian.

However the Italians have knocked by a setback to young forward Domenico Berardi, who has had to pull out only two days after receiving his first international call-up.

The 21-year-old Berardi was named in the starting lineup for Sassuolo's Serie A match against Empoli but pulled up with a muscular injury in the warm-up and was replaced by Matteo Politano.

Italy coach Antonio Conte says Berardi underwent tests and a scan on Monday: 'They showed nothing serious ... he told me he is in a lot of pain.'

Conte adds that Berardi 'Is also a bit scared because he's coming back from an injury, so he prefers to return home and recover.'

Conte will not call up a replacement with Stephan El Shaarawy, Lorenzo Insigne, Simone Zaza, Antonio Candreva, Fabio Quagliarella, Eder and Giovinco among his forward options.
