Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Jurgen Klopp would be the perfect choice to take over at Anfield following Brendan Rodgers' sacking.

Owen says that of the two primary candidates for the role, Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti, it is the former Borussia Dortmund boss who would better fit the bill at Liverpool.

Rodgers was dismissed by Liverpool on Sunday after a disappointing start to the season saw them labouring in 10th in the Premier League table after eight games.

'If indeed these are the two main men (Ancelotti and Klopp) I would think that Klopp is the better fit for Liverpool at this time,' Owen, who scored more than 150 goals for Liverpool, told Sportlobster.

'I think that a younger and potentially hungrier manager in Klopp would be the best fit for Liverpool in their current predicament.'

Owen also reckons that the hiring of Klopp would be a huge boost to the Liverpool fans who had become frustrated with the team's performances under Rodgers.

'His appointment would certainly excite the Liverpool fans who had become so disillusioned with Rodgers and in this day and age their part in the whole process cannot be over-estimated,' Owen continued.

'He would also bring a burning desire to succeed and to take the club from their true position of "top six" to right back in the mix for winning the title and where finishing top four is a given every season.'
