Tim Sherwood has joked he will be eyeing the directors' box for possible replacements on Saturday as he fights to save his job at Aston Villa.

The Villa manager will watch his side at home to Swansea amid intense speculation that he will lose his job should they fail to win having collected just a single point from their last eight Premier League games.

The 46-year-old, who was appointed in February, was criticised for appearing in the Villa Park directors' box when predecessor Paul Lambert was feeling the heat last season.

'I'll be checking over my shoulder to see if anyone is positioning themselves in the directors' box,' said Sherwood.

'I'm easy with it (pressure). My job doesn't change. I still need to win a football match, which I'm aware of. I'll be taking full responsibility for the team's performance and we'll win.'

Sherwood claims Saturday afternoon's clash with Swansea is as big as last season's FA Cup final, telling his players that the meeting with Garry Monk's Swans is a 'must-win' game.

The former Tottenham manager says he would quit Villa if he became unhappy but insists he has no plans to walk away. 'I am telling the players it's a must-win because I think we need to win a game sooner or later,' added Sherwood, whose side lost last season's FA Cup final 4-0 to Arsenal.

'Forget Wembley last season, this is a cup final. It's a massive game, not only for me but for the players as well.

'They all want to be Premier League footballers and this club needs to be in the Premier League.

'I know we will be and they need to know we will be. They will only do that by winning games and getting that confidence.'

Sherwood's position has been under scrutiny for several weeks, with the Aston Villa Supporters Trust issuing a statement this week demanding clarity and comparing the situation to a pantomime.

But Sherwood insists he does not need words of support from his employers, who have so far been silent on the speculation.

'It's their decision whether they want to come out and say that,' said Sherwood.

'If you win enough games it's someone else's turn to have the pressure. The pressure is on me anyway and I always knew that.'
