The 2015-16 NBA season got underway on Tuesday night and the excitement of a new campaign has clearly gripped sporting superstars too.

Retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jnr and 2002 World Cup winner Kaka were among the keen basketball spectators during Wednesday's matches.

Mayweather was in attendance for the Miami Heat's 104-94 win over the Charlotte Hornets, while Kaka saw the Orlando Magic lose 88-87 to the Washington Wizards.

Dwyane Wade scored 20 points for Miami as they opened their NBA season with a 104-94 win on Wednesday

The former was present at the American Airlines Arena with American record producer DJ Khaled, as Erik Spoelstra's side got their season off to a winning start against their Eastern Conference rivals.

Chris Bosh scored 21 points in his first game since getting sick last February, while Dwyane Wade added 20 for the hosts.

And after the match Wade posed for a picture courtside with Mayweather and DJ Khaled.

'My brothers @dwyanewade @floydmayweather big win tonight ! ANOTHER ONE MY VOICE !' Khaled wrote on Instagram after the match.

Elsewhere in Florida, Kaka watched courtside as the Magic lost by a point to Washington in a close affair.

Accompanied with the caption: 'NBA !!' the Brazilian playmaker was all smiles as he posed with for an Instagram picture with four close acquaintances at the Amway Center.

Kaka, who plays for MLS franchise Orlando City, watched on as Wizards point guard John Wall hit a floater with 12.7 seconds remaining in the final quarter to break the hosts' hearts.

Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 24 points, followed by Wall with 22.

The Magic had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Nik Vucevic's jumper bounced off the rim as time expired.

Victor Oladipo led the Magic with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tobias Harris added 15 points.
