Brendan Rodgers is in the Middle East discussing a lucrative contract with a Qatari club.

The 42-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Liverpool in October.

He was planning on taking a break from the game after his Anfield exit but has been tempted by an offer overseas in the oil-rich country less than two months later.

The discussions have been kept shrouded in such secrecy the club has not been revealed, but it is understood he will be paid in excess of £3million per year if he accepts a deal.

Rodgers would follow the path of former Swansea manager Michael Laudrup who took charge of Qatar Stars League side Lekhwiya. He won the cup and league double there.

Rodgers has had offers to work as a pundit since his dismissal. He spent three years in charge of the Merseyside club and admitted he was 'extremely disappointed' after being sacked.
